Justice Alito was caught on tape saying things I don’t think a Supreme Court Justice should say. The taping was unethical—the journalist posed as a Catholic conservative when she spoke to Alito at a Supreme Court event. But it is quite revealing. In a NY Times piece, Alito is reported to have told the woman that “compromise in America between the left and right might be impossible and then agreed with the view that the nation should return to a place of godliness…..people in this country who believe in God have got to keep fighting for that, to return our country to a place of godliness.”
She also serupticiously recorded Justice Roberts at the same event. He said, “Would you want me to be in charge of putting the nation on a more moral path?” the chief justice said. “That’s for people we elect. That’s not for lawyers.” As she questioned him more, he refuted her suggestion that we are a Christian nation, and that the divide we feel in our country now is un-bridgable. When asked if the court should be helping guide the country morally, he said, “No, I think the role for the court is deciding the cases.”
I would love to read a report from a major news outlet about who in our government might be investigating impeaching Alito, because I can imagine there is movement in that direction. I think the only thing that might be an impeachable offense is that Alito may have lied to Congress about all the flag controversy, but I don’t know.
In Delaware today, President Biden’s son Hunter was convicted by a jury for buying a firearm while on illegal drugs. I feel for him, and glad he is sober. It is a stark contrast that Hunter Biden graciously accepted the verdict and President Biden, who also without question accepted what our justice system decided for his son, said he would not even consider pardoning Hunter. After his conviction (and before), Trump whined on and on about how unfair it all was and has repeatedly vowed revenge.
Anyway, here is a drawing to make you smile, I hope. I have read reacently that eating beans every day prolongs your life. So I’m trying to do that. But it can be very confusing, there are so many kinds! And some of them have nicknames!
Happy Tuesday, see you tomorrow. I am grateful you are here!
Alito's wife is a piece of work. As I recall, during Alito's confirmation hearing in 2006, she would break down in tears and run out of the hearing room when Democrats suggested that her husband is a racist, which now in hindsight seems pretty spot on.
And I am grateful you are here!
I think of you as my daily dose of sanity that is delivered with humor. I always look forward to it, always appreciate it.
Thank you!
