Tonight I’m lucky to be at an event to hear Rachel Maddow speak. Our daughter works at an indie bookstore, Oblong Books in the Hudson Valley, and they are sponsoring Maddow’s visit. All ticket holders will get a copy of Maddow’s new book, Prequel. It’s in a large theater and is sold out- of course. I’m here in my seat before anyone else (thanks to my daughter having to work the event, handing out books), and saw Rachel and her people come on the stage to checkout the set-up. I drew her.
She was a study in brown! She looked sad-- a book tour must be tiring. But then also the subject matter of her book is deadly serious.
I look forward to hearing her tonight and reading her book. The subtitle is “America’s fight Against Fascism.” Important stuff to learn about- we are in that fight right now. Maddow is an important voice for our fight..
I was in the lobby of the theater moments ago when the director of the theater gave the ushers a pre-show talk. Part of what she instructed the workers was what to do in case of hateful attendees, people who don’t like Rachel. This area of the Hudson Valley is a mixture, demographically, and I know there are many MAGA people around here. Whether they’d come to this to voice their dislike, I don’t know. This is what we’ve come to.
If I draw her again this evening, I’ll post it later and maybe add a quote. I don’t like drawing in dark theaters, I don’t like to disturb others with the light of my iPad.
Happy Saturday, see you tomorrow.
I am watching her and Joy Reid at thaw Apollo tonight. Two voices that excite neurons. The good ones.
I’m a big Rachel Maddow fan and am a bit envious that you are going. I have a couple of her books and watched her nightly program almost daily. Happy that you have the opportunity. Enjoy.
