Something is surfacing in the news this afternoon that I don’t fully understand. Well, that’s often the case with news—I don’t fully understand a lot of the news. Apparently, during a telephone town hall, Elon Musk said that if we elect Trump, Americans will have to go throught a temporary economic hardship. “Reduce spending to live within our means for a while.”
Not him or Trump, of course. But why would he say something like that? It’s very puzzling because I see no upside for the Trump campaign. In these huge campaigns, one is inclined to think that everything they do has a reason. Maybe not.
Even though he was called on to apologize, Trump ignored the requests, as well as all the negativity within his own party about the NYC rally yesterday. He called the Madison Square Garden event, where numerous slurs and racists/sexist jokes and comments were delievered, a “love fest.” Love for him, maybe. That’s all he cares about. But conservative commentator Megyn Kelly said the rally was “too bro-tastic,” (new word for me) and if the campaign is hemoraging female voters, this is not the way to get women to stay. It seems that the Trump campaign is such high testosterone and bravado in all the worst ways. Do they feel they have to pump it up because they are running against a woman? Does the campaign really think this kind of behavior will grow their numbers? I want to think that the Garden event— and all of that kind of thing— is going to lead to a huge loss for Trump. And yet, the corporate media keeps saying the race is too close to call, it’s tied. Really?
Trump is posting this on his social media platform: “Law enforcement is all over the great commonwealth of Pennsylvania, looking at and for VOTER FRAUD!” You don’t post that when you think you’re losing.
The Harris campaign took a great ad out on the Vegas dome. Kinda cool, its a political first.
The Vice President is speaking tonight on the Elipse on Washington, near where Donald Trump encouraged a mob of insurrectionists to storm the capital on January 6th and try to prevent official counting of electoral votes. I will look forward to hearing what she has to say, how she uses the space to make her points. She should stay positive— so maybe she will not need to say anything about January 6th, and all the horror of it and potential of it happening again, since she will be there.
By the way, the drawings in this post have nothing to do with my writing (I don’t think). I just wanted to pass along some drawings that didn’t make it into The New Yorker! A little light fun to go with the heavy stuff.
I thought it would be fun to do a zoom gathering before the election. So: meet me on zoom if you can on Monday, November 3rd at 5pm EST. Link below for those of you who are contributing subscribers! Thank you!
And thanks for being here. Happy Tuesday.
