Above, I offer a silly cartoon for you before I launch into a worry.

I just read that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has given Fox News access to security footage from January 6th. Tens of thousands of hours of video.

House Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries responded:

“I write with respect to public reports that extreme MAGA Republicans in the House have provided tens of thousands of hours of sensitive Capitol security footage to a FOX News personality who regularly peddles in conspiracy theories and Pro-Putin rhetoric,” he said Tuesday, referring to Carlson. “The apparent transfer of video footage represents an egregious security breach that endangers the hardworking women and men of the United States Capitol Police, who valiantly defended our democracy with their lives at risk on that fateful day.”

Not being clear on the legality of this, I nonetheless find it extremely worrisome that McCarthy has done this. Fox will use this video and perhaps even manipulate it to spin a story to the advantage of the GOP extremists. I have a suspicion that this is one of the things McCarthy gave up in his negotitions with the extreme right of the GOP House members in order to get their votes for the speakership.

I’ll repeat what I have said before: the extreme right of the GOP is trying to pull a January 6th from inside. Now that Fox has the footage, they will spin it to their viewers as they choose and perpetuate the lies they have been spreading.
