To begin production of my documentary, I needed to create an LLC, a production company. Just the act of doing that opened my mind, dreaming of possibilities. I have “owned” my own business for over forty years, drawing for hundreds of different clients. But the idea of having an official business— what can I do with this company beyond the documentary? I named my company Pet The Dog Productions, after my first published New Yorker cartoon which is about petting dogs (thanks to my husband Michael for the brilliant idea for the name).
One thing is I definitely want to do is more animation. I’ve done short ones before, and have a lot to learn (that’s a huge understatement). I found myself with some free time this afternoon, so I played. I wanted to share my rough efforts with you today, my first time using Procreate. Above is a crude one of my collaboration a few weeks ago with Yo-Yo Ma. Below is one of a woman moving, and you can see two different versions showing the same animation. After viewing the one above about Yo-Yo, I realized that I needed to actually animate the line that was swirling between us, that’s why it came off as so choppy. Will try again.
I like the looseness of what I did with the woman. My plan is to write a script for a short animated story. And just keep practicing!! I want to tell a full visual story and don’t yet understand how to do that. Another idea is to create a live-action/animation short based on a script I wrote last year.
Thanks for listening and viewing my experiments. I was happy to get out of my creative funk and wanted to share that with you.
By the way, tomorrow at 3-4pm EST, I will zoom with paid subscribers. I also spend a little time looking at work if people have something they want to share with the group. It actually becomes a fun group critique session. Link is below the paywall.
Thanks for being here! See you tomorrow.
