The above is about the hot weather we are currently having. It’s not a mob reference, although because of Trump’s behavior recently, it’s hard not to think about that.
Trump’s Ugly Bill has been passed by the House right now. He strong-armed, schmoozed and sweet-talked, handed out merch to those Republicans who might have voted against the bill.
Minority Speaker Hakeem Jeffries spoke on the House floor for 8 hours and 45 minutes, breaking a record set previously by Speaker Kevin McCarthy in 2021. Jeffries passionately spoke about the dangers and cruelty of this bill. From the NYTimes:
“Jeffries’s speech has drawn heavily on the traditions of the Black church, weaving political argument with spiritual resonance in deeply familiar way. His deliberate cadence echoes the rhythm of a Sunday sermon, and he has repeatedly turned to Scripture to bolster his case invoking not just policy, but a moral framework rooted in faith. Throughout his remarks, he has referenced his home congregation, Cornerstone Baptist Church in Brooklyn, a longtime anchor in his community.”

This is a sad day in America. Trump now has to sell this to American citizens, who have expressed dislike for this bill; if he doesn’t, he will be in trouble with the midterms.
We can’t lose hope. So many are working so hard to fight this, we have to support them and join them if we can.
Tomorrow at 2pm, I will be going live and in conversation with New Yorker cartoonist Michael Maslin! Michael has been with the magazine for 4 decades, and we have been married for 3 decades! We will talk about the art of cartooning, The New Yorker, and most likely politics.
Hope you can stop in and say hi. We will try to answer questions as they come in.
Happy Thursday, if possible. See you tomorrow! I am grateful that you are here.
The problem is, the cuts in health care don’t take effect until after the midterms. Half our population isn’t paying attention.
never give up-never give in! was this Churchill? we must remember this.
