It’s going to be a scorcher in the northeast this weekend. Get the ice cube machine working, drag out the window air conditioners.
Or, like me, fly to Oslo! Sorry, don’t mean to rub it in. It’s a work trip, and one I really enjoy and learn from every time I go. I was invited to live-draw the Oslo Freedom Forum, a forum of speakers who are all dissident, activists and human rights advocates around the globe. An initiative of the Human Rights Foundation, they kindly bring me to all of their events, and I draw the speakers and attendees and put out on social media. My work hopefully attracts eyeballs to the amazing work of these brave people who speak every year, and the work of the HRF. If you would like to experience the event in real time through my twitter stream, follow me there. It starts on Monday, and you also can live stream it, just go to their website to find out how.
Weather is a theme I turn to every now and then. It certainly is less stressful to draw about the weather than coming up with cartoon ideas about war and the pandemic and mass murder. Except when you begin to think about how the weather causes climate change.
Here are some other weather cartoons, all published in The New Yorker.
And a bonus cartoon not about weather directly, but climate change:
Love these, though the polar bear breaks my heart. Enjoy Oslo!
