After reading a lot since the debate, I have come to the conclusion that I was wrong to think it is better for our country for him to step down. My mind changed (although I was unsure, just scared) in part because it feeds into the idea that performance in one night should be a determining factor for who makes a good Commander in Chief. Immediately following the debate, I was scared and thought he had lost it. But he simply had a bad night, and I am certain he is capable of handling the office of the Presidency. Those duties do not include debating a pyschopathic, serial liar.
I love Joe Biden. Principled, funny, dedicated, honest, hard working.
I also love Kamala, and she would be my first choice IF Joe stepped down. It’s worrisome that some in our country may not be ready for a Black woman as President, but we need to get past that. We need to argue repeatedly that she is incredible.
This rally Joe gave after the debate also made me change my mind:
“I know I’m not a young man…I don't walk as easy as I used to. I don't speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to. But I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. I know how to do this job. I know how to get things done. And I know, like millions of Americans know, when you get knocked down you get back up!”
He tells the truth. Trump doesn’t know how to, or rather doesn’t want to. Trump is the one people should be calling to drop out of the race.
Many criticize CNN for not fact-checking Trump during the debate, not calling out the lies, and I agree. What were they thinking? By not doing so, it accentuated the contrast and falsely made Trump look more in command. I also don’t like the split screen for any debate…I want to see the entire person, not just the face.
Journalist Jamille Bouie in a video post on Instagram this morning, had some encourging facts that support that one debate, particularly so early in the year, has next to no effect on voter support for either candidate.
It might be too risky for the Dems to try to nominate someone else, assuming Biden steps down. And if he did, how can they chose anyone other than Kamala Harris?
I think Joe needs to be much more in the public eye, and Kamala as well. They should use TikTok, and flood social media with positive, fun and creative posts. We live in that age, and if they want to reach young voters, that is what has to be done.
I did this drawing below back around 2019.
Here’s another one from around the same time. Biden and Harris love the world, and the world loves them. They believe in people, and in hope.
Let me know your thoughts!
Happy Saturday, see you tomorrow. Don’t forget our zoom on July 2nd. Link below. Thanks for being here!
