From what I read in the NY Times and Washington Post, there appear to be no signs of protests in New York City for when Trump arrives for his arraignment on Tuesday. But the city is preparing, requiring all members of the police force to be in uniform on Tuesday, just in case. I am very curious to see how Trumpers react to this upcoming event. I think it will tell us a lot.
Hence the drawing above.
On January 6th, Trump called for his die-hard supporters to rally to violence. Will he say that on Monday? Or will he just try to squeeze as much money out of them beforehand? Maybe Trump would love a civil war so that he doesn’t have to go to prison.
In 1970, Gil Scott Heron famously said, “The revolution will not be televised.” It was a different time that I remember well. Heron’s prophetic statement and political attitude was certainly wildly in opposition to anything about Trump. It makes me a little uncomfortable to put the two men in the same paragraph, and I’m not sure the reference makes sense. I’m close to taking it out. It just came to mind.
I think followers of Trump—perhaps reticent since the convictions of many January 6th terrorists— will stay home. They can watch Trump get arrested and put in jail, on television. In their jammies.
That wouldn’t be revolution, that would be democracy.
