Today, I drew a bunch of Oscar statues.
I was unsure if they would have them around this year— I recall one year there were hardly any. It was great to see them! I’m not sure why I have such affection for this figure, but every year, I have to learn to draw Oscar again. He is very symmetrical and the lines of his figure are quite specific. I constantly struggle to get it right.
There’s something slightly amusing about seeing Oscar wrapped in plastic, as above. Because it has been raining a lot today, there was a bucket to Oscar’s left to gather rain from a leak. Los Angelians are not used to this much rain.
.
And, of course, there’s always someone touching up paint near an Oscar statue.
I learned from Wikipedia the following: “The statuette, depicting a knight rendered in the Art Deco style, was originally sculpted by Los Angeles artist George Stanley from a design sketch by art director Cedric Gibbons.”
Later, I attended a screening and panel discussion with the producers and directors of the films nominated for Best Short Films, Live Action. They were really great! I love the way these filmmakers can tell simple, yet poignant stories in under 30 minutes.
I’m tired! More tomorrow!
It is funny to see the employee moving Oscar on the dolly.
