This evening I did an event in Maine with the historian, Heather Cox Richardson to benefit my documentary, WOMEN LAUGHING. It was fascinating and great fun. We talked politics, women, cartoonists, history, and looked at cartoons. We tackled a lot— and while we may not have solved it all, the room errupted in laughter many, many times. Great combination. I live-drew at the beginning of our conversation and at the end.
First, I drew some folks in the audience.
Then, at the end of our talk, I drew Heather.
We continued chatting as I drew her, and she was saying some very funny things—all in front of a sold out audience at the Lincoln Theater! Then, I invited her to draw, and, sport that she is, she drew me. The stylis stopped working before she could finish, but we had a lot of laughs. Thank you, Heather, for your generosity.
And, just before the evening began, I saw that we reached our kickstarter goal for the documentary fundraiser!! THANK YOU to everyone who helped us get there, we truly appreciate your support in making this film. So very grateful.
See you tomorrow! Thanks for being here.
Fun to be there! (even if only until 7:50 p.m. Ferries wait for no one. ‘Don’t miss the (last) boat’ is a reality when living on an island.) Happy to say hello in person and to get a signed copy of your book. Looking forward to Women Laughing. You certainly make me laugh and think a lot. Cartoonists are important. I read Ben Franklin’s biography “The First American’ over four winters (a tome!). He was a publisher of political broadsheets and posed as a female columnist for some time (anonymously). I thought of him tonight while watching you and HCR. All three of you are patriots and Americans to be proud of. With much appreciation, Ursula King
P.S. My friend and I stopped and got steamed clams and a lobster roll on the Wiscasset Pier on the way up Rte One, adding delicious to the fun. Try it! đŸ˜‹
two wonder women in one evening it must have been amazing!
