Drawing People Is Connection
I love drawing people. Not sure what that says about me, but I try not to analyze, rather just draw. It’s clear to me that people enjoy being drawn, I often get contacted right after I draw someone on a panel. Perhaps drawing is nothing more than about connection.
Below are some live drawings done recently at SXSW, the huge event in Austin, Texas designed for connection. It started out as a Music Festival, which it still is, but now there are talks about culture and politics and education and film. I was there to moderate a panel with The New Yorker called New Yorker Cartooning Now. We talked about our work, the new increased diversity in our field, and generally just had a blast, the most laughing on a panel I have ever experienced! I couldn’t figure out a way to live draw my panel while asking questions, so no drawings of that event, only photos.
Below are my drawings done while walking around SXSW.
