Okay, this is silly.
I rarely do drawings on the subject of sex. But this one above emerged the following way: I decided I wanted to draw a cake stand, and see where it would take me. I thought to myself, what could be funny on a cake stand? So I drew a bed, then the couple in bed. It’s wierd enough having a bed on a cake stand, you don’t want to put an animal in the bed or anything. That would be overkill. And then after drawing the couple, I thought of the caption.
Sex, of course, has historically been a constant topic for cartoons in the magazine. Here is one about sex I did for The New Yorker several years ago.
A little light hearted post today.
One of you— my wonderful followers,—said somewhere that following me was like “having a New Yorker cartoonist in their pocket.” I love that! I think about it frequently now and hope that’s true. Please let me know who of you said that, I cannot find the comment and want to thank you.
I hope you are having a fine Friday.
Hey, I wrote the comment, the author of (shameless plug) the “Aging Graciously” Substack blog. Here is is in full: “Subscribing to @Liza Donnelly is like having your own personal New Yorker cartoonist in your pocket. When you need a laugh, you just pull her out and a guffaw fills the room.”
By the way if you want me to send you a printed and signed copy, that’ll be $99, please. 😁
I didn't say it, but I wish I had. Your cartoons are the best thing about the New Yorker, anyway...
