I have never grown rhubarb, but I do love a good rhubarb pie! I remember the first time I heard about, saw and tasted rhubarb, I was in college. I recall tasting the pie and was overwhelmed by it. So good. I would gladly wrestle rhubarb, so maybe I should grow some next year. Is it difficult to grow?
The caption came directly from a friend of mine (hi, Pam!), who said it in an email to me, among other things. She ended her letter by saying she was going to wrestle rhubarb. I thought it such a great phrase, I asked if I could use it. She said yes.
I did one similar a few years ago, not verbally as fun but I hope visually amusing. But I do like the notion of “being done with forsythia.”
There is something very funny about plants and people interacting. Here is a rather old drawing about weeds.
I am reminded of a cartoon by New Yorker cartoonist George Price, probably from 1939. As a young person, I studied Price’s cartoons and this one was a particular favorite.
I hope your afternoon is full of fun plants!
See you tomorrow.
As I remember from 60 years ago, rhubarb is really easy to grow; almost like a weed.
I am reminded from my grandma's vegetable garden to avoid starvation during the depression. Most folks do not have that connection.. So I grew up with a mom who was familiar with sandwiches of bread / butter/ radishes/ onions. As a son I had limited exposure to that lifestyle and she did not have the ability to communicate the experience while I was alive. As a result. I advocate to speak with older folks regarding family before it is too late. Might be semi-important later.
