Happy Pride Month, everyone!
Lately, I have been thinking about how gender influences humor. Specifically, can one create humor about gender issues and have it be understood, and also not offend? I spoke with a transgender cartoonist friend of mine yesterday and we touched on this. She feels that the mainstream world is not yet ready for transgender humor, and while she has created it, it has not been accepted outside of the trans world. One can extrapolate this to humor created by women: early in my career, truthful humor by women was not acceptable, it was guised in patriarchical forms. And now it is accepted. Things to think about. I am writing an article on this, stay tuned.
Having covid is affecting me in odd ways. I don’t just mean the physical elements, which for me are relatively mild. I am drawing, but my mind is wandering a lot.
