How To Draw Harris And Trump

Lt. Govenor Mark Robinson, a Republican who is running for Govenor in North Carolina, was found to be commenting on porn sites, referring to himself as a “Black Nazi.” He also said on this site he supported slavery and would love it to return because he “would buy a few.” There were other more sexual comments that I won’t put here. You get the idea. Heather Cox Richardson suggested in her letter today that this story was put out by Republicans because it was the last day for Robinson to withdraw from the race. He has already been a liability for the GOP in many other ways, they want him gone. Trump has previously been vocally supportive of Robinson, calling him “Martin Luther King on steroids.” However, Robinson said he is not stepping away, and the deadline to do so has passed.

This kind of behavior is not exactly like Trump’s behavior towards women, but it represents lies, arrogance and power drunk men. We see it in all kinds of men, Sean Diddy Combs and Harvey Weinstein included. The Robinson news helps the Harris campaign, and certainly helps the Democrats in North Carolina.

Harris did an online event with Oprah Winfrey last night and answered serious questions in the town-hall like forum. I saw online (although I was not able to watch the interview in real time) that the show virtually brought in a few celebs to participate in some way: Julia Roberts, Ben Stiller, Tracey Ellis Ross, Meryl Streep, Brian Cranston, Chris Rock. A great way to push out their endorsements without making them do it individually.

At one point, Oprah Winfrey told Harris that she was surpised to learn on the debate that Harris was a gun-owner. Harris said in a jocular tone, that “if someone breaks into my house, they’re getting shot.” Then she laughed and said she probably shouldn’t have said that, but will deal with it later. I was surprised by her response, to be honest. Although perhaps it was genuine, it was the first time she seemd to be posturing in a way to seem tough. She doesn’t need to do that, but then again, maybe for some people, they need to hear that.

Finally, Trump said at his rally list night that it will be the fault of “the Jewish people” if he loses:

“Any Jewsh person who votes for her, or the Democrats, should have their head examined. Jewish people, who are supposed to love Israel—in 2020, remember I got 20-24 %—I did alllllllll of these things, and I got 29%, think of it. So I wasn’t treated right. I really haven’t been treated right, so if I don’t win this election, in my opinion, the Jewish people would have a lot to do with the loss.”

It’s been a while since I did live drawing, so I thought it might be interesting for you to see how I draw Trump and Harris. Maybe it will be of interest anyway. One point I made in the video that I want to put here: Harris is active, Trump is static. Says so much, no?

This is my studio in the Hudson Valley. When we moved here in 1988 (I know, ages ago), we were told by the old man who delivered wood for my wood stove that this upstairs barn space where I now draw and write was used for boxing matches and dances. Downstairs was the post-office for the area. All very appropo for a cartoonist, if you ask me.
