Today’s newsletter is a feature I love to do every week if I can. Many of you who have been subscribing here for a while know it. It’s noticing something or someone as I just live my life, as I walk around or take public transportation. Then I draw them. This week I am in Santa Monica, and I walked to this coffee shop I like to get an ice coffee. Coffee in hand (they make a delicious iced cardamom latte), I sat at the counter and looked around to see if there was someone to draw outside, or inside. Then this woman came in with her dog and I knew that I’d found my subjects. Her very chill golden retriever got so many loving comments from customers as they came in the door. He/she loved looking outside as his/her owner was busy on her phone.
Also one thing I love about visiting Santa Monica is that so many restaurants and cafes have large doors and windows wide open to the street; the line between inside and outside is not always distinct. This partiular coffee shop (called Gnarwal) seems to attract a lot of young Los Angeleans who look the part. It’s fun for me as an artist to study their dress and countenance. The woman I drew looked like a typical Los Angelean, but of the older variety.
Anyway, going to watch the primary results tonight, but there probably won’t be any suprises. See you tomorrow, thanks for being here!
I'll keep an eye out for you at the SM farmers market tomorrow morning!
This one feels good. Must be the dog ☺️
