A woman working at LAX, here is the video.
I watched a wonderful movie last night called Perfect Days. I highly recommend it. The lead in this film masterfully —and with few words— shows us the life of a man we don’t fully understand. He cleans Tokyo city bathrooms for his job and loves trees. That’s all I will say because I don’t want to spoil it for you.
One thing I will say is that the film shines a light directly on our assumptions about people who do unpleasant manual labor— and in particular, labor that involves sitting on the ground and scrubbing public toilets with one’s hands.
Since I began live-drawing in 2015, I have enjoyed drawing all kinds of people—celebrities, politicians, authors and musicians. I also love drawing the people who most of us don’t notice. Those who take out our trash, pick up after us and clean our messes. I noticed the woman above at LAX this morning and drew her, emptying the airport trash.
I love this movie. It’s rentable online.
Happy Saturday, see you tomorrow from Austin, Texas!
Love your drawing (and whenever I see anyone cleaning a bathroom in an airport, I do try to thank them).
Thanks for the heads up on the film. Will watch it today.
And imagine the global slice of humanity she gets to observe every day at LAX. WOW.
Great sketch; enjoy Austin LD.
