Reading what is going on in our House of Representatives, I am worried. Specifically, I am speaking of the recent removal Representative Ihan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Commitee, citing what they consider anti-semitic words, for which she previously apologized. But also the removal of Rep.s Schiff and Swallwell from the Intelligence Committee. The far right group in the House is scary, and we need to keep an eye on what they do. Heather Cox Richardson wrote about it today in her newsletter. Here is just one excerpt:

“With the Republican Party just barely in control of the House, that group [the far right extremists such as Goetz and Greene] now wields enough power that it divides the House into three groups: the Democrats, the Republicans who want to cut taxes and gut regulation, and the Republicans who want to destroy the “socialist” government, want to keep white people in charge, support Trump or someone similar, are fervently Christian, and openly court violence.”

When Speaker McCarthy won his position by giving so many concessions to this small but radical right wing faction, I believe he, in essence, helped them to begin the continuation of what many of them wanted on January 6th.

Obviosuly, we need many voices in our legislature, and people with passionate views. It is part of our system to hear from far left and far right voices as well as moderate voices. However, I believe this small group is not trying to work together, but rather manipulating the situation in order to gain power. There’s a big difference.
