It's The Little Things
Backstories
Good morning! I forgot to post last night, my new routine so you can have a drawing in your inbox in the morning. I just went into my storage of drawings, and ran across this one from years ago.
As in many cartoons, there’s a long backstory in the image. For this couple, I have no idea what it is, except that he’s been wearing knit caps ever since they’ve been together. Luckily for him, it hasn’t pushed her over the edge. It might even have endeared him to her. Maybe he feels insecure without a cap, and she knows that. Maybe she likes his individuality.
Maybe, as the cartoon implies, his personality is to stick with things, like knit caps. And her.
I hope your Monday is good!
I feel like there’s more to this cartoon than just the fact that he’s wearing crocheted hats. He’s also wearing an apron and appears to be cooking (or preparing to cook) while she is leaning apronless against a counter with a mug in one hand of her casually folded arms.
I’m seeing a darker scenario: her body language--crossed arms, crossed legs, double-x--tells me she’s saying one thing and feeling another. I give them six months in couples therapy followed by a divorce. She hates that friggin’ stinky beanie, and probably the tempeh and rice he’s cooking for dinner for the thousandth time.
