“We have 100 days to save our democracy. It’s up to us. Think of what we can do with it!” -Heather Cox Richardson
Kamala Harris now has enough delegates to take the Democratic nomination. Since she was endorsed by President Biden on Monday morning, she had the best fundraising day in election history, 1.1 Million individual donors, many first-time contributors. This is a cultural phenomena.
This is an election that we, as individuals, have to work to make happen the way we want to. We can’t rely on the media, the polls, the large newspaper editorials to tell us what to do, we have to take control of this narrative. Donald Trump has to be beaten in a landslide (although just beaten would be fine, too). Biden can keep doing what he needs to do to continue his excellent work helping working class families and handling international affairs. In fact, he will get even more done now (which is saying a lot because he has gotten so much done in his time as President) that he is not distracted by a campaign for office.
Tomorrow, I am driving to Maine to do an event with historian Heather Cox Richardson! It’s being billed as “A Conversation Between Friends.” Heather is a new friend, and I am excited to talk with her about politics and women who draw cartoons for The New Yorker. I believe our common thread as two writers who are passionate about democracy is our belief that individuals can effect change—be it as a cartoonist or any ordinary citizen. One person at a time.
Proceeds will benefit the Lincoln Theater in Damarascotta Maine, and my documentary, Women Laughing.
Speaking of Women Laughing, we have a new reward for people who donate! Two of my childrens books, signed with a drawing for the child in your life. Here is the link to our fundraiser.
I will report from Maine tomorrow, hope to do a live video update. Thank you for being here.
(ps: many have asked: hats and t-shirts with Kamala I’m Speaking image to come soon)
Very very excited for her, for us, for you and both the fundraiser and the Maine event! If it weren’t sold out I’d urge my nephew and librarian niece in Portland to drive there!
Another great graphic!!
