Trump is still courting Putin

Vice President Kamala Harris has raised $1 billion since entering the race. It’s more than all monies raised by Trump in 2024. No candidate has ever raised this much money, this fast. I’m holding my breath that this difference in funds makes a difference.

Trump is not doing what what all other candidates in the past have— again, he is not a normal candidate (or person, for that matter)—which is participating in helping to assure a smooth transition of power. Even if he wins. Signing the official papers for transition means revealing your donors, and Trump does not want to do that.

“An effective transition leads to an effective administration. It leads to better staffing, better organization and leads to the country being safer and more secure,” said Heath Brown, a public policy professor at John Jay College who wrote a book on the Biden administration’s transition. “I think the Trump transition team is unsure of how much they want to play by the rules.”

In a new book by Bob Woodward, we learn that at the height of the pandemic, when covid test kits were in extremely short supply, Trump mailed some American made kits to Vladimir Putin. Apparently, Trump and Putin have spoken on the phone at least seven times since Trump left office. One wonders what they talked about. The weather? Dictator jokes? How to dominate one’s citizens and take over other countries? Is Putin giving him advice, or more likely guiding him to do Putin’s bidding?
