Lady Liberty Is Crestfallen

Roe V Wade is struck down

I am deeply saddened by the decision today by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe V Wade. I am frightened for our country. I am worried for countless women who will need an abortion and will not have access to them. Many will die.

I am furious.

It took me most of the day to figure out what to draw and I’m not totally satisfied with what I drew above. I wanted to express all of the above emotions, but could not find a way in one drawing. But I needed to draw something.

So I chose to draw sadness in the above image. I am sad for our country, sad for the fact that we are now a place that does not respect women and their choices. Sad that the liberties of half our population have been seriously and fundamentally curtailed. This is catastrophic. I feel as though I’ve been punched in the gut.

Lady Liberty is crestfallen. That word isn’t even strong enough.

What I want to do is next, and will, is draw an image that screams VOTE!! This fall we have to vote this conservative radical right out of office. It is so important. You see where voting got us, we are living the nightmare now, even though he was removed. The damage was done.

Our votes can lift us out again.

I am proud to live in New York, a safe haven for women.
