Live Drawing A Bans Off my Body March
Today there were —I’m guessing—hundreds of gatherings across this country in support of abortion rights, to protest the potential decision by the Supreme Court to end the 50 year old law, Roe v. Wade, in essence banning abortion in many states. I attending one such march in Kingston, NY, near where I live part time. It was a great turnout for this area, old and young, black and white, many genders. People were angry, psyched, emotional. There were chants like “My body, my choice,” and “End the patriarchy!”
Former State Senator, and soon to be Deputy Govenor of NY, Antonio Delgado spoke, along with others. He is a very eloquent speaker and I can see he will go far in leadership.
People spoke for about 30 minutes and then the crowd marched for about 30 more minutes. A few more remarks were made at the end of the march, and this man, named Steve Spicer, who was basically the MC and head cheerleader the whole time, yelled to the gathering “This ends the yelling and screaming portion of the march, now you know what to do!” “Vote!” was the operative word at the march.
Being there moved me and motivated me.
