There is a really odd piece in the NY Times today about a man who is an election predictor. I’ve seen him on CNN, I have no idea whether to believe his theories or not. But why the Times has to go to this extent in a rather cutesy way for this article is beyond me. No it’s not really beyond me, it’s economics.
Polls and predictions are infuriating, yet we keep getting deluged with them. We have learned they are unreliable, yet we still have them put in our faces on a regular basis. People who respond to polls are not always telling the truth, particularly concerning anything to do with Trump. They won’t admit they are voting for him, and now, they may not want to admit they are not voting for him.
During our monthly Seeing Things community zoom on Tuesday, one subscriber said that they have seen post-it notes in women’s stalls in bathroom that say, “Ladies, it’s okay to vote for Kamala. You' don’t have to vote as your husband/partner does.” (I hope I am recalling that correctly). It’s crazy. Are women that swayed by their husbands/partners in general? What about posting that in men’s stalls? I said: “In men’s public bathrooms, you could post ‘You can still be a man and vote for Kamala.’”
Yesterday, a friend and I were talking about the election. He is from Chile, and he said he and his boyfriend went to a party in Harlem, and slowly he discovered that everyone there—as far as he could tell— was a Trump supporter. I asked, was the crowd Latino? He said no, all white. Then I asked him: amoung your Latino community, who are people primarily supporting? He said emphatically, Kamala.
It’s really anyone’s guess what will happen in November.
Liz Cheney endorsed Kamala Harris yesterday, saying also that she will vote for her. As I think of Repblicans who might do similarly, I remember what former President George Bush whispered to Hillary Clinton at Trump’s Innauguration speech, “Well that was some weird shit.” I doubt he’ll come out of his painting studio to do any endorsing, but it would be historic.
Tim Walz said yesterday, “My God, every time I hear Donald Trump give a speech, it’s like the next screenplay for Mad Max or something. They are rooting against America.” This doomsday approach, attempting to get Americans to feel everything is horrible and getting worse by the minute, is part of the playbook established by the Russians in their attempt to control our elections.
Trump is also seeding doubt by saying in interviews that he thinks the upcoming debate on ABC is rigged. So, if he does poorly now we know why. Will you be watching the debate on Sept 10th? I will be live drawing it from my studio!
Happy Thursday, see you tomorrow!
This was from Jess Craven/Chop Wood,Carry Water post yesterday. As a former DV Advocate, this is not crazy…

Then, let’s stick it on the inside of the stall door every time we use a public restroom as well as other places as we see fit.

Here in Austin (yep, oh-so-liberal Austin, TX), I was doing door-to-door canvassing for Wendy Davis when she ran for governor. At more than a few houses, when a woman came to the door and I explained why I was there, she’d go get her husband because “he makes those decisions for us.” It made me sad. And it made me think of Dorothy at the end of “The Wizard of Oz” - “You always had the power, my dear.”
