I was on the subway the other day and live-drew this sleeping woman. I drew it on my iPhone with my index finger, and while on the subway, sent it out on twitter and IG. All in around 5 stops on the A train.
Noticing what you see.
Live-drawing is something I have been doing for about 7 years. It takes different forms. During the pandemic, I live-drew (literally live) at five from my studio, every day, drawing on all sorts of paper, with different media. but also on my iPad. I’d talk as I drew. Then when things opened up, I would draw outside on the street. Here is a video titled Drawing The City As It Returns. You can also see a lot of my videos on that page, my Medium page, or on my Youtube or my Instagram.
I was inspired to live draw for the 9/11 anniversary the other day, and did a drawing live, on Instagram.
Finally, here is one of my live drawing posts about being at the Oscars and drawing!
Tonight, I am going to the 92NY, New York City’s “global center for culture, connection and enrichment,” and live drawing Bruce Springsteen in conversation with Jann Wenner! The Y gives me a media ticket, and I simply draw and share on social media. Last year, I went to see Hillary Clinton at the 92NY, and drew her (see below). The 92NY liked it so much they offered me to come to any event I like, as a visual reporter. Below is the Hillary drawing, with Samantha Berry (Glamour Editor) and Huma Abadin (who had a new book out).
More for the Y below. Andrew Garfield:
On a zoom event, I drew Margaret Atwood:
And sometimes I also enjoy drawing the audience:
Those are just a few from the Y. Watch my twitter and IG stream tonight for BRUUUUCCEE drawings!
If you have an event, consider hiring me to live draw it!
Love these, and particularly love the sleeping woman on the subway. You've managed, in your typically deft way, to capture real feeling in her--tiredness, resignation. Not sure what. But it moves me.
