Today’s newsletter is news that I am excited to share with you. I found out I am invited back to live-draw the 95th Academy Awards in Los Angeles, after a two-year covid break. I love good storytelling— so this is always a thrill for me to be there in person. There are a lot of things that can be said about the awards shows, and sometimes I agree with the criticisms. But they are fun and they remind us of all the good movies we’ve seen over the years and give us a chance to celebrate the new wonderful ones that just came out.
What goes on behind the scenes is what I love to draw. The people painting statues, vacuuming the Red Carpet, making the canapes, the guards, camera people, newscasters, security. I love sharing what I see with my followers, showing my perspective of what’s going on in visuals. I’m talking to you about my experience in pictures.
Below are some samples from years past.
And the outfits!
And the celebrities!
I’ve been drawing the Oscars for 8 years, it will be this year 6 of those in person. This year I will again be drawing for The New Yorker, as well as some other outlets I hope, too. Follow me on twitter to get them in real time.
Brava! Looking forward to seeing the show through your eyes and art. ✍️
I love the first drawing ... of the statue!
