I loved the blue sky and this brown building above. In the Bronx.
Something about the pink hair and the drab train caught my eye,
I love sharing photos with you. Enjoy.
Some news today:
Trump delivered a grievance filled speech yesterday to the Justice Department, apparently rambling on and on and attacking lawyers and other individuals by name. I didn’t/couldn’t/wouldn’t listen, but here is the article.
Musk shared a post on X and then deleted the share, that was a statement intended to absolve dictators of any responsibility for the murders of hundreds of thousands of people. This included Hitler, Stalin, and Mao Zedong. The post claimed they were not responsible, but that “public sector workers” were. Here is the article.
Trump tried to use White South Africans as a cautionary tale. The NY Times reported that “The president and his allies accuse South Africa of discriminating against and killing white people, and warn that it could happen in America if attempts to promote diversity aren’t stopped.” Here is that article, it’s alarming.
Senator Schumer and nine other Democrats yesterday voted with Republicans to avert a government shutdown. This inflamed a simmering fight among Democrats, many of whom feel it is time to exert loud and strong opposition to Trump and Republicans in Congress, and that “allowing” for a shutdown —i.e. not voiting for a GOP party-line proposal— would do just that. Obviously Schumer disagreed. My gut says that the Democrats should have let a shutdown happen; maybe such a crisis is what we need to stop Trump. I don’t know.
And then, there’s Creamsicle:
The amazing owl was discovered near Lake Huron. No one has ever seen such a color on a snowy owl, and scientists are trying to understand how the color happened. Until they get a feather sample from Creamsicle, they won’t be able to figure it out…and happily no one is planning on trying to capture him/her. So wonderful!
Tomorrow, I will be on a live podcast at 8:30am, with my friend Sree Sreenivasan. Sree has been doing his #NYTReadalong on Sunday mornings for a long while now, I joined him early on as a guest years ago. He reads the NY Times with a guest as they discuss news and culture. Tomorrow we will also talk about the exhibit I curated for The New Yorker’s Centennial. You can also watch on Instagram by going to Sree’s IG account when we are live, @Sreenet. And for more info, go here. Stop by and ask a question!
Thanks for being here, have a great Saturday. See you tomorrow!
Creamsicle is so much cuter than the pair of rotten varmints nesting on the White House grounds.
Thank you for Creamsicle. May he or she roost happily ever after…
