Do you have summer plans? Road trips are fun, but it helps if you have a road and a car, unlike those two above.
Cartoonists often use tropes, such as the desert island image. Here are a few more that I have done over the years. I am not a huge fan of these kind of visual devices, but sometimes they can work. And they are good to play around with if you are stuck with no ideas (which unfortunately happens too often).
Everybody “gets” the scenario of the desert island, and you can plug people and humor into that set-up. It’s taking a “given” and twisting it, making for a surprise and perhaps a laugh.
Here is an example of a cartoon that is not tropey. It’s purely visual and makes little sense….although I hope it might work on some level. These are actually my favorite kind to do, but they run the risk of not being relatable, not being understood, not connecting with the viewer.
Humor is a gamble.
