Every week, except times when the magazine shuts down for holidays, or for unexplained reasons, I submit around 6-10 cartoon sketches a week, which is pretty typical for others who publish in the magazine. Maybe some submit a lot more, I don’t know. I am married to another New Yorker cartoonist, Michael Maslin, and I know he submits around the same as I do. The New Yorker either buys one or they don’t. It’s a lot of rejection, but as I have said many times: the more you draw, the better you know your own voice and the better you actually draw, whatever that means.
