Happy 2023, everyone!
As I do every morning, I just scanned the news. Here are some highlights that I found telling, although none rose to a drawing for me.
A heavily armed man in Atlanta -can he be arrested?
Santos will be seated in Congress
Brazil has a new president, Bolsonaro would not concede and is in Florida
McCarthy’s up for a vote to become Speaker of the House
It will be very interesting if McCarthy does not get the votes he needs to become speaker. We are watching our legislature struggle with internal stuff, which is always there but we don’t always notice it or are even privy to it outside of the Beltway.
I know there is so much else.
Many of us get bombarded with news, we choose it. I would like this newsletter to respond to the news frequently and visually if I can. Not every day, because I think we sometimes need a break from news—plus it could seem forced.
Part of my job as a cartoonist is to see things and pull out things from our culture that I think are worthy of noticing. You may or may not agree, or you may think I am full of myself. But I have a way of seeing, shaped over the course of my lifetime—as everyone has— and it’s all about sharing. Right?
Have a good day, see you tomorrow.
