The plan is not to be outraged by everything Trump does. But his response to the DC airplane disaster is beyond dispicable. No condolences, just attack and blame. His first response was to say the crash happened because of DEI hires for air-traffic controllers. When asked to explain what the connection is, he said:
“It just could have been. We have a high standard. We’ve had a much higher standard than anybody else. And there are things where you have to go by brainpower. You have to go by psychological quality, and psychological quality is a very important element of it. These are various, very powerful tests that we put to use. And they were terminated by Biden. And Biden went by a standard that seeks the exact opposite. So we don’t know. But we do know that you had two planes at the same level. You had a helicopter and a plane. That shouldn’t have happened. And, we’ll see. We’re going to look into that, and we’re going to see. But certainly for an air traffic controller, we want the brightest, the smartest, the sharpest. We want somebody that’s psychologically superior. And that’s what we’re going to have.”
Q: “… I’m trying to figure out how you can come to the conclusion right now that diversity had something to do with this crash.”
TRUMP: “Because I have common sense. OK? And unfortunately, a lot of people don’t. We want brilliant people doing this. This is a major chess game at the highest level. When you have 60 planes coming in during a short period of time, and they’re all coming in different directions, and you’re dealing with very high-level computer, computer work and very complex computers.”
Last night, Pete Hegseth, now Defense Director, slipped it into his statement: “We need the best and brightest, DEI is gone, whether its in air-traffic control, whether its in our generals, or throughout our government.”
The mainstream media has been pushing back, at times rather tepidly, with questions like “how can you say that, there hasn’t been an investigation?” That is a waste of question time, the question should be “why are you signaling to your base that only white men should run things?”
It’s horrible.
Trump’s nominations are continuing to be vetted and some have been confirmed. We still have to hear about a number of them, including RFK, Jr, Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard who are facing very tough hearings, as they should. The Guardian is keeping tabs on all the nominess and confirmation hearings, here. I would love it if all three of this big ones don’t get confirmed, but we’ll see. It would be a good signal to Trump, plus better for us that they not get confirmed.
Because the Supreme Court seems to be pro-Trump, the MAGA administration is “flooding the zone,” because they feel their chances are good that the orders Trump makes now will evenually stand up in court. Or some will, at least. This tactic confuses the media and the Democrats, an added benefit in their plan.
I feel so very sorry for the airplane victims families. My heart goes out to them.
Finally, in the theme of this post, I offer a cartoon of mine from The New Yorker, published during the pandemic.
Thanks for being here, I really do appreciate it. I hope your Friday is going okay. See you tomorrow with some lighter fare!
Trump's response to the plane crash is indeed beyond despicable.
But what do we expect from Trump?
Let's call it as it is: TRUMP IS A ROTTEN, VENGEFUL SON-OF-A-BITCH.
Liza, more great comments from you. How do you describe a disaster in the White House? We can survive only by joining hands, joining hearts and speaking out. Your words and drawings give us hope.
