Every year, we buy a six foot tall, coniferous tree and put it in our living room in a special red and green holder with water, and (it’s always my job) drape a string of white little lights around it as gracefully as possible. Then the rest of the family hangs shiny balls and little toy-like things on it, even a glass pickle. While I drink a glass of wine. We play music we only play in December while doing this. Some of us drink a thick, strange white liquid with nutmeg on top.
Anyone else do this strange activity?
We don’t cut the tree down anymore, although we did it a few times in past years. We thought, why not buy one that was already cut and waiting for us to pick out in the lot? Why kill a tree, if you don’t have to? That’s what inspired the drawing above.
In the end, the point is: it’s nice to be together.
Also, we now light candles in a little holder, but that’s for another post.
I live in the Christmas Tree Capitol of the World so they say. Lunenburg County Nova Scotia. A lot of trees lose their lives here to give families a livelihood...
This is so like what we do. My son, Randy, hangs the ornaments. (When he’s not looking, I rearrange them.) We are going to look for a tree today. Am holding my breath about the cost. Like you, Liza, we always have to have a six footer.
