Part of a cartoonist’s job is to pay attention to trends and word usage. Below is a drawing I did a few weeks ago using a phrase I heard my daughter use. That phrase is “on a journey” about something. I’ve heard it before, I just did not “notice” it with my cartoonist’s brain until she said it. Perhaps it was the knitting reference that made my ears perk up.
A very talented knitter, she said that she and her a friend are “on the same knitting journey.”
I thought it would make a great cartoon. Here is the first effort.
Then I thought I would try it more literally (so to speak).
Alas, The New Yorker did not see it as I did!
