I could not agree more with your rant. Grotesque is the perfect description of the event, the costumes, the people—the whole thing. Loved Ann Telnaes this morning. If you’ll pardon my language “Tits and Lips” perfectly drawn!!!!!!!

I hope everyone takes a look at Ann's cartoon this morning. Stunning.

I was going to say the same thing!

Exactly what I came to say! Ann Telnaes brilliantly captured the Bezos’ ghoulish lasciviousness as they literally rape and pillage our government and society to fill their coffers and destroy democracy. It is one of her most brutally spot on pieces of work I’ve seen yet.

You are so right, Liza. It used to be a playground for elegance and creativity. I did watch and it was interesting to see that 3 of the best were worn by female athletes. 3 of the worst by Kardashians. Hmmmmm....

I agree with your sentiments and am so very disappointed with women who are distorting the beauty of aging.

"It's important to take time out for fun!" I could feel my stomach lurch at the top of the first roller coaster hill. I love roller coasters but heights are beginning to bother me as I age. Still. I think roller coasters are fun. Is fashion fun? Are celebrities and their displays fun? Are excessive extremes, outlandish displays, obscene outlays of cash for costumes fun? Maybe fun is in the eye of the beholder and excess doesn't matter? Except. When excess is what we admire, what we film and celebrate---then what?

It's beautiful here in Massachusetts, too! I couldn't agree with you more about plastic surgery-enhanced garbage Mrs. Bezos. It is grotesque!

"The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil" is a frequently misquoted verse from 1 Timothy 6:10

The only thing I've seen from the Gala was Hunter Schafer, and while I didn't need to read your rant to inform my general feelings about the Met / Gala / Spectacle (I kinda despise the phenomenon of fame and the weird economics between wealth and art / artists already),

Seeing Hunter was a Real Nice Thing™ for me, I'm glad that there's a highly visible trans woman at that event makes me happy. I subscribed to say this, maybe I'll stay.

Welcome to our world, Lisa!! So glad such a kind and creative woman has “caught on”! We will win because we are the people. ( But I do have my fingers crossed !!)

Perfectly ok to rant periodically. Maybe even more these days given where we are in this off-kilter country. I had absolutely the same reaction to some of the photos I saw of the Gala. (would never watch!!) Gaudy, expensive, show offy, etc. Pretty much everything I detest about the 1%. Love your cartoons and commentary--keep on drawing and writing. We are with you.

I feel your anger and your heartsickness. I clicked on a headline about the outfits, saw one, and the first thing that came to my mind was: the money spent on creating this garishness could probably have helped flood and tornado victims, the ones who seem to be on their own as the organizations offering them relief get gutted. Finding fun/humor/relief is hard come by these days. One should embrace the chance to grab it. Thanks, as always, for sorting it all out for us.

Put me down for supporting your rant. Sharon Herrick is right about Ann Telnaes’ cartoon. The Guardian had quite the photo of Ms Bezos and her boobs. Scary. Her Mar a Lardo face is even more frightening.

THANK YOU for your rant‼️ The grotesque bodies, the flaunting of excessive, useless wealth as the least of us loose food and medical benefits is appalling. Along side statistics that reveal billionaires give less to charity than in the Golden Age while their wealth is extraordinarily bigger. Disgusting on a very visceral level ...

The dresses were grotesque and the event so oblivious to hard times in this country. Jeff Bezos and his wife look like cartoon characters. This country seems lost.

Good rant. Absolutely. It is grotesque and the greed on display is mind bending. And what's with the weird "rich mouth"? Is it about eating the world? Of course, Bezos is easier to understand than the Space cadets---because his desires are so very very greedy. Biggest boat, biggest shopping spree, etc. Why not share some money with his workers?
