The fires in Los Angeles area are terrifying. I send all my best to those affected. I feel confident that Govenor Newsom is doing everything he can, I have great faith in his abilities. Biden is of course helping and I hear Canada is helping. Thank goodness Trump is not yet in office, but even if he were, I believe Newsom would manage fine without assistance from the White House. Trump is already blaming the Govenor for the fires. That’s what he does.
We found out yesterday that for a Fox News Town hall during the campaign last year, Trump was given the questions ahead of time. The information is from a forthcoming book, “Revenge: The Inside Story of Trump’s Return to Power” by Alex Isenstadt, a national political reporter at Politico. Trump had complained during the campaign that Harris knew answers before the debate.
Trump called Supreme Court Justice Alito right before filing his request to stop the sentencing tomorrow. Alito reported that they talked about a job reference for one of his former clerks, and did not discuss the filing. It’s unusual for a former president of president-elect to call a Supreme Court Justice, let alone about references, something usually left to aids. Clearly, this was a pressure tactic.
MAGA has introduced a slew of bills to the new Congress, many of which are following Project 2025 plan that we have all feared. I am worried by so many of these, and hope they never get passed. For example: a national abortion ban, a proposal to “revoke security clearances for ‘certain former members of the intelligence community,’ introduce a constitutional amendment to cap the Supreme Court at nine justices, and cut off federal funding to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office (the office that successfully charged Trump with election interference) and the Fulton County (GA) District Attorney’s Office (the office that has charged Trump with criminal conspiracy).”
There’s just too much news right now. More later, I plan to write about The New Yorker exhibit I curated!
Happy Thursday.
We are headed into the storm. Pull up your collar, duck your head down and trudge on. Grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change. Courage to change the things we can (new boots, clearer path). Wisdom to know the difference.
Today we laid to rest a man of integrity, Jimmy Carter. As we face the uncertain days ahead, we welcome your voice and drawings Liza. Thank you for all your contributions.
