By now I am sure you are aware of the new charges against Trump related to his retention of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.
“The new indictment alleges that Trump plotted to delete video from security cameras near the storage room where he had stored boxes containing classified documents, and did so after the Department of Justice subpoenaed that footage. That effort to delete the video involved a third co-conspirator, Carlos De Oliveira, who has been added to the case.” Historian/author Heather Cox Richardson puts it succinctly.
Here is the NY Times annotation of the Trump Classified Documents Indictment.
It’s essentially now about an alleged coverup. Sound familiar? Two men who work for him at Mar-a-Lago now are charged as co-conspirators. They may flip because of these serious charges against them.
My concern is that the trial for this—or any of the trials set for Trump—won’t happen fast enough and he will get re-elected. Then pardon himself. It’s a possibility that is hard to believe, but then Trump being elected was also hard for me to believe when that happened.
What do members of the Republican Party who support Trump think now? With the current evidence as we know it, how can they possibly say this is a Biden-Democratic conspiracy witch hunt? Trump and the two men also charged have been caught lying. It boggles my mind, and I am really hopeful some of the members of the Republican Party start to turn this dangerous, large ocean liner called Trump around. Tonight, all the GOP presidential candidates are gathering in Iowa— all eyes will be on what they say and how they say it.
I hope you are safe during the heat wave we’re having and are able to enjoy summer. I’m going to be in Maine (it’ll be a little cooler up there!) for four days starting on Sunday, and the cell service may be horrible. I am scheduling days of cartoons and a few other things for you to enjoy while I’m not at my computer.
Thanks for being here!
May you draw that ship submerged and soon!
At the risk of sounding condescending, one of the (many) things I admire about you is that you worry about the right things. Decades of conservative rule have decimated education funding and created a survival mentality (think healthcare; at will employment contracts; et al.). When people are exhausted, ill and struggling to survive judgement is impaired and the master can look like the servant. ADORE that cartoon, Liza, there is something hopeful about it.
