Four House democrats traveled to El Salvador: Representatives Yassamin Ansari of Arizona, Maxine Dexter of Oregon, Maxwell Frost of Florida and Robert Garcia of California touched down in Central America on Sunday. Califorina Goevenor Gavin Newsom criticized Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen for traveling there last week to visit Abrego Garcia, calling it a distraction, playing into Trump’s hand. I disagree. The imprisoning and deporting of a man, or anyone, without due process is something we need to get very loud about. It’s against our constitution.
Hegseth shared classified details in another Signal chat, this time including his wife and brother and a dozen other people. John Ullyot, who resigned last week after initially serving as Pentagon spokesperson, said in a opinion essay published by Politico on Sunday that the Pentagon has been overwhelmed by staff drama and turnover in the initial months of the second Trump administration. There is pressure for him to be fired, or resign. We shall see. Trump calls attention to what Hegseth did “a waste of time.”
In a Republican town hall in Idaho last month, a woman was forceably dragged out of the hall by two unidentified men, after the sheriff asked her to leave. She had been heckling the speakers, but was otherwise not disruptive. Here is footage of the incident. The men have been charged with battery and false imprisonment.
This is the kind of emboldenment the Trump administration is fostering, and I hope it continues to get called out. This woman was exercizing her right to free speech in a public town hall.
In a short video in the NY Times, Adam Liptek, a Supreme Court reporter, explains in very simple language what will happen if someone in the Trump administration is found guilty of contempt for not returning the men who were recently deported by Trump to an El Salvador prison. He says that it would then be sent to the Justice Department for prosecution, but the Justice Departmen works for Trump. So then the court could appoint an independent prosecutor. In any event, it will go to the Supreme Court.
“The idea that its a live idea that the president might not follow a Supreme Court order tells us we are in very different territory than what we’re used to.”
Just for fun, I share a drawing and video grab I did of a NYC street vendor.
Thanks for being here, see you tomorrow. Stay calm, carry on.
Safe travel, Pope Francis- you were a good man who left the world a better place. You will be long remembered, not least by the little sparrows of God's flock.
Pope Francis was ordained a priest in 1969. I was also ordained a priest in 1969. He embodied what it means to be a Christian---A life of love and acceptance of every person, rich or poor, and especially those in need. Unfortunately, today's administration in Washington must be the most anti-christian group ever elected. We must do better.
