Sometimes, something in nature just shouts at you. That was the case a few days ago when a bright red bird just yelled its colors at me. I knew this was not your everyday sparrow (no offense to sparrows at all).
I did not need my field glasses this little bird was so bright. I got out my phone, opened my trusty Merlin Bird ID app, and figured it out. A Scarlet Tanager. I also listened on the app to the songs it makes, and realized I have been hearing its song for a few days already. Now I could see him.
I love nature.
I will be flying to Oslo in a few hours to attend and live-draw the Oslo Freedom Forum. It is an internationally know conference for human rights and freedom of speech. They have invited me for six years now, and I absolutely love this three day event, I find it very moving and educational. It is a forum for talks by dissidents and activist around the world, from countries with dictatorial and authoritariam regimes. These people are very brave.
I will live draw the speakers and the environment. Stay tuned.
My husband is a bird lover and we have a bird feeder. His favorite is the Painted Bunting. It's so beautiful and hard to attract. He has an app which identifies birds by their song as well as one from Cornell University.
The Oslo Freedom Forum is so important. I look forward to your report. I know I can count on you!
So exciting! Bon voyage.
