Worried About Voting Rights
I am astounded at how the GOP is working to block any success for Biden’s agenda. What have we come to? I remember growing up and hearing about bi-partisanship in the Capitol. My only hope is that the January 6th committee, or the NY GA Attorneys General, will uncover major fraud or tax violations in Trump’s papers and completely blow this thing out of the water. Too much to ask for?
Moreover, I am very scared about voting rights. Corey Booker, Tim Scott and Raphael Warnock spoke passionately on the Senate floor yesterday, and it highlighted the lack of diversity in the Senate. I urge you to listen to their speeches. As Senator Booker remarked, we are in a new Jim Crow era.
Below is a drawing I did before the last election when Trump was president. Now, no longer president, he is wielding incredible power and we should be very worried.
We already have voting rights. Unless you are a complete moron, voting is simple and easy. I’ve done it many times (and so has my 88 year-old dad, who has cancer and bad eyesight). All you have to do is: 1) be an American citizen 2) show proper ID 3) show up on one day of the year to vote and if you can’t be there in-person, 4) get an absentee ballot. If you don’t have ID, you can get one from your State (otherwise known as a “State ID”). Easy peasy (unless you are a moron).
Three black senators speak about the lack of diversity in the senate. Reminds me of the business group event I got involved with that included 6 black people out of 20. The most vocal of these self-described victims of oppression were either retired (comfortably), working in a high paying industry (Real Estate), running their own company or being the city manager making $185k/yr in a small Florida city. After listening to the sob story of growing up in Phili oppressed, we all drove away, and I found myself next to the woman running her own company at a traffic light. I waved and noticed she drove a Mercedes.
More people voted in 2020 than ever before so I guess you think that adds up to voter oppression. And I am sure that Delaware, Joe Biden's home state, will get their voting rights laws up to par with Georgia someday, right?
