Happy National Voter Registration Day! Are you registered?
The Trump campaign is sucking all the air out of the room. Instead of talking about how women’s rights are under attack, we are talking about outrageous lies about immigrants. Instead of shouting about the way the GOP wants to control women’s bodies, deport thousands of good people, we’re talking about how Trump is yelling that Harris is the reason for assasination attemps on him.
Podcast host Joe Rogan, who apparently has an immensely popular show that appeals to Republican young men, said that Kamala Harris is “nailing it” & doing a “f*cking amazing job.” He also mocked Donald Trump.
According to Harris campaign spokesperson Victor Shi, Rogan has “11 million YouTube subscribers, over 1.9 billion downloads, and an average of 200 million downloads per month. Joe Rogan is literally part of the culture for lots--mostly men.”

We need young men to vote for Harris, so this could be really good.
One thing that Rogan said that stood out for me, something we don’t talk about enough, is that Harris is a team player, she works with people. Her team is helping her be at her best and manage the messaging with nuance and aggressiveness ( my words). Trump is so arrogant that he thinks he knows best and can do it all himself. Harris’ messaging is really, really good: she has savvy people working for her and she works with them.
Harris is now starting to meet more with the media, and she is doing it on her own terms. Her campaign says she will be doing non-traditional outlets as well. The Harris Campaign said they will be doing media interviews strategically; I think this is smart. If she just does interviews with CNN or NBC or the Times etc (legacy media), it will reach only a specific demographic and the outlets will spin it in ways that help the outlets get eyeballs. That could drown out what she has to say. Go to small outlets, non-English speaking media, podcasts, social media sites. Whatever! I’ll interview her for my newsletter (haha), and live draw her! Her people should choose carefully how she spreads her good news. Also this way, it’s harder for the Trump campaign to grab it and twist it in a loud, hateful way.
At least I hope.
The above cartoon was one I thought of for this newsletter, based on what I wrote above about legacy media spinning the news to suit its need to get viewers. As I wrote the words, I had various captions in mind, and I thought maybe you could tell me which one works best.
the one I chose to use above
“The media is spinning so much, I can’t understand a thing.”
“The media is spinning the news so fast, I can’t see anything.”
“Legacy media just spins until it thinks we will watch.”
You can see how subtle changes make for a different feel or meaning. It’s always best to be loose about captions and keep them somewhat fluid for interpretation. Which do you like?
Thanks for being here! Happy Tuesday. See you tomorrow.
It seems like so much of what we get these days from politicians, the media, and conversation with others is...welll...spin. "What's your view?" "Can you believe what Josie said?" "Head-spinning isn't it?"
It's doubly troubling when I realize how little of the spin seems to be based or verifiable facts. Sigh.
I like that your spin comes with nifty drawings and humor. That's *my* take, at least.
Caption suggestion:
I've got my head on straight, so let the media keep on spinning (it's wheels) forever if it wants to!
