A relevant scandal

"Ya'll know that two of our favorite things here at Narratively are fascinating history stories and beautiful illustrations. This one has both! For your weekend watching pleasure, check out one of the most fun posts we came across this week, from two of our favorite Substackers."

In the early morning hours of June 17th, 1972, security guard Frank Wills at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. was just doing his job, and ended up changing history. Heather and I were talking about the Watergate Scandal last week, and how the series of events that led to a president’s resignation had deeply affected us both in our youth. In my case, it led me to want to be a political cartoonist.

Our planning discussions on what to draw and talk about in these monthly collaborations always brings fresh insight for me. It’s fascinating to hear Heather’s perspective on key historical events, share my input on how it is visual, and then we hash out its relevance to today. Or also, as in this case, relevant to our own experience.
