I just love this photo. These two are the founders of The New Yorker Magazine. Their names were Harold Ross and Jane Grant, both journalists, and married, at that. This was probably taken in the early 1920’s in the backyard courtyard of their home on West 47th Street in New York. The building is still there, and here is the exterior. How I wish I could go inside! This is where they schemed and planned and raised money… and created the now famous humor weekly. And had lots of parties.
Sometime soon, I will write more about this and about the exhibit I curated for the Society of Illustrators to celebrate The New Yorker’s 100th birthday this year. Opens next week!
That’s all for today, I’m still a bit of a sicky! Thank you for all your lovely get-well wishes, you guys are wonderful.
Thank you for this amazing post today. So sorry you are still sicky. Take your time with rest and recovery. When you are well and back in the saddle, eager to learn more about this backstory. Awesome photo, and agreed, to be able to go inside… actually gives me chills as I speak this using Siri. Please take good care. Health first!
My Mom gave me a subscription to the #newyorker so I get the print every week
