Thank you for this amazing post today. So sorry you are still sicky. Take your time with rest and recovery. When you are well and back in the saddle, eager to learn more about this backstory. Awesome photo, and agreed, to be able to go inside… actually gives me chills as I speak this using Siri. Please take good care. Health first!
What wonderful post. Hope you get "unsicky" soon. That is such a classic, historic New York Brownstone. I hope you might address the recent loss of one of our great political cartoonists from the WP, though it's very touchy. The offending cartoon has now had probably the widest circulation of any she's done (and it's wonderful.) Get Well Soon, as Hallmark® has said in so many ways.
That's not the picture I painted in my head reading Brendan Gill's "Here At The New Yorker," the easiest book to find on the bookshelf because it's a piece of beige tape holding it together. Of course, I can never find it because I left it in some godforsaken corner of the house. While the guy in your cartoon heels the dog, you do some healing yourself.
Years ago, when I was in high school in the 1970’s, I read anything I could find by James Thurber or Thorne Smith. My parents had introduced me to their works and I was enthralled by their writing styles and humor. That interest led me to read Thurber’s, “The Years with Ross.” I am not usually a fan of non-fiction, but I thoroughly enjoyed that biography and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in The New Yorker.
For what it’s worth, my favorite Thurber cartoon is the one with the figure of a woman crouched on the top of a bookshelf, while a man introduces his wife to a guest as “this is the current Mrs. H.”( I don’t remember her exact name.)
Glad to hear you are feeling somewhat better. Your continuing information about the New Yorker is very interesting. Thank you for sharing-please continue!
Sorry you are still sicky. Kick pneumonia to the ground! Love your post and photos. Go to sleep little baby, don't you cry, we're gonna buy you a big blankly to keep you warm and dry.

Get better soon
My Mom gave me a subscription to the #newyorker so I get the print every week
You're the best. Feel better soon! 🤗🥰❤️
Recover, dammit!
Also love the photos. The house my mother was born in (1912) on manhattan’s lower east side still
stands. Wish I could go in, walk those floors. Strength my friend!

Also not what I pictured - and not only the uniform...

That's perhaps one of my favorite Thurber too!

No thoughts about Ann Telnaes?
Many thoughts! It's really sad what's happening at the Wapo.
I get my news now from the NYT, the Guardian, and the Onion. Not necessarily in that order.
My adoration of James Thurber included his memoir, “The Years with Ross.”
Continue to rest. It is only going to get worse.
