So lovely, watching the magic of these coming to life. When I was very little I remember often being asked what my favorite color was, and I’d always say, “black.” And these know-it-all grown ups would always say back to me, “that’s not a color.” So I’ve spent my whole life loving black and trying to ignore the rules. 🤣💣🎨
That's so funny. Very new york of you to like black. I am the same way, in fact only seem to be able to comfortably wear black, with maybe grey and navy!
You brought a smile on what has been a bad news morning: my favorite vacation spot is in flames, and one of my favorite musicians did his last waltz last night. Thank you!
It was a sad day for those reasons, yes. Unsettling what's happening in Hawaii, and then when artists or actors die that were a part of your life growing up, that's really hard. I loved the Band.
Thanks. Yes, the Band was in the thick of it! Very influential. And I've never been to Hawaii, it sound just so horrible what happened. I have to ask, you saw Prince live?
HI is a pretty special place, each island with its own character, but all worth the trip. We’ve made on the order of fifty over the years (mostly from NY, a few shorter hops from CA). Maui emerged as favorite, The Big Island runner up. Prince story in brief: we were at Longhi’s (established by a former MadMan) for an early dinner. Commotion noticed opposite us, as waiters gathered up all the available planters, arranging them in a circle around one table, walling it off from view. His Princely highness was secreted in from the kitchen, seated without fuss, dined, and must have left, unseen, somewhere around our desert course. So, I’m not sure I can say I saw him live, but I did get a true tale to tell, and just a bit more connection than the average fan (guilty as charged).
I think I just broke Substack etiquette... The link takes you to two of our favorite things, color and elephants, compliments of the daughter who has just become a first time grandmother. Great grandma has yet to come to her senses. 😍
Such magic from you. "What shall I draw?" became a wonderful drawing. Wish my brain worked like that. Wish I could buy it. What a lovely sentiment to hang up on my wall. Thanks for the creative trip!
I love how you share not only the process of your drawing, but your thought process more generally. How you deal with finding a subject and then embellishing it with other critters and caption. Fabulous!
I have that exact same of watercolor mini set and enjoyed seeing your art come to live with it... at my 77 years of age, it makes me excited to see someone with skills drawing and adding colors to a prior blank page! So much enjoyment watching you at work!
Love it, just wonderful. Thank you for sharing your creativity and talent.
Thank you! My pleasure.

Just re-watched "The Last Waltz" and "Once were Brothers." It's easy to forget just how good and influential (The Beatles, Dylan...) The Band was.
Re: Maui, I'm moved by my many memorable evenings at Longhi's (one involving Prince) to ask, "Climate change... what climate change?"
I'm enjoying your work. Thank you for that!

Wonderful! I didn't know about the etiquette!!
Key quote, which is OK for an artist to say, but NOT a doctor: "Bleeding isn't necessarily a bad thing."
🤣
hahahaahahahah. Hadn't thought about that, you're so right!
When in doubt, draw a cat.....

Thank you so much! I am so used to being able to do this, I may take it for granted. So I appreciate your thoughts. thankyou
I love watching your figures emerge from the page. Just lovely.
Have you ever used a small hair dryer to dry the ink quickly? I use one for all my water-based media, as needed. I get impatient. Lol
Interesting! When not on camera like that, I usually just wait it out. Also try to time it so some bleeding occurs, just not too much!
Thanks, you always make me smile!😃
thank you, James. My pleasure.
Mo liked the color of the elephant, its silver, like him. He asked for the bird. Lovely start to the day. Thank you!
My pleasure!! I love shades of grey....
