I never feel anything you post is impersonal. After all, you've invited me to listen!! And, as far as I'm concerned, every cartoon you post is a gem. Maybe I should call my husband in the other room now...
Love this! I find we text more and more with others and daily with my partner multiple times morning, noon and night, even when in the same house. With friends and family, we talk on the phone far less, preferring in-person visits or video chat face to face conversations be it Zoom, Face Time, etc. I think the pandemic had a lot to do with that evolution for me. But with text or phone call, no one knows what you're wearing (if anything). So there's that. ;-)
My favorite mode of talk may be from 2d grade: two tin cans and string--and laughter.
The best actual talk in my life was with a partner: at three am. I woke her up and asked to talk--and she said "yes, of course......" as if that was the most natural request in the world.
I live in a tiny village in VT with a waterfall a stone throw my house and moose, deer and bear in the back yard. I've avoided Amazon and FB and X easily. And----I thank Liza and all for these sweet exchanges
With people who are personally important to me, I enjoy a good phone chat -- but seldom initiate them, because if I do I feel like I'm intruding. I use email a lot, as it allows both (or more than two) parties to respond when it's convenient. Text is a great idea, but my old and cranky flip-phone and my relatively fat fingers make it hard to type them; smartphones don't work well for me either, since my fingers seem to lack more heat than most peoples. I sometimes use email to schedule a phone call. Psychologists say that when we have too many choices, our brains clam up. That's my excuse for just keeping to myself most of the time. But at age 71 I feel that being a curmudgeon is at least somewhat expected. So there!
This is so apt! Imagine what it'll be like when the human/cyborg balance shifts. I'd love to see your take on that--though, I imagine the NYer would be horrified 😱
I call my husband when he is in another room to ask him a question rather than walk around the house calling his name because I don't know exactly where he is.
A doubly pleasant Friday surprise; thanks.
I will text within the same room - (I know, sad.)
Especially during holiday dinners. (Yeah, Especially sad)
I do not think you are alone!

Ha! Thank you:):)
I do that sometimes...when my husband is down in his office and i'm upstairs in mine and am too lazy to move, and too hoarse to scream down. xoxo'
I go days without speaking on the phone. Almost all my calls are with my wife.
I’m impressed that couple-on-the-couch are even talking! They’d more likely be texting.
I prefer hearing a person’s voice; there’s so much that’s lost with just words on a screen.
Thanks, Liza. 📞 Happy weekend!

Ha! Love it, Chuck. Michael uses a flip phone and texts on it...with great difficulty.

I look forward to meeting him - Neanderthal to Neanderthal
