I am not sure what to write about today. I figure I can be open with you about that. We have an ongoing crisis in Ukraine, abortion is still not legal in many US states, women’s rights and LGBTQ+ rights are threatened, Trump and his “clown car” (as someone in the hearing last week described his people) are still at large, not to mention other crisises in the global community that are not on the front page of the NY Times and why don’t I know about them???? ….what else? And I am a humorist?
It’s July. Is it time to chill and not write about these things? But these things (and so many more) cannot be just put aside. I also have my individual creator problems of trying to figure out what to draw and how to keep my myriad ongoing projects interesting and viable.
Just another Monday. So I share the above cartoon with you, done during the pandemic and published in The New Yorker. It’s how we all feel right now, I imagine. One minute we’re fine, the next minute we’re not.
We can only do what we can do in any given day. One foot in front of the other. I grew up in a home with alcholism, and have leared a lot about that disease over the years. The “one day at a time” thing continues to make sense.
And, may you find some zen today, whatever that might mean. I will try to be funny.
"Being Zen, Or Whatever" is a fantastic title. For this, for anything.
Thank you!
Always love reading your words and seeing your art.
Love this! Thank you!!
