That was fun! I hadn’t heard this feature before. It’s an adventure in imagination, thinking of possible scenarios.

Therein lies the rub for a great cartoon: A drawing that's funny on its own + a caption that's funny on its own = a hilarity multiplier.

I loved the bear one, there was a cognitive delay to the visual reveal, which gave goose bumps 🤣

Loved them... though I confess to racing to my New Yorker to follow along and I got to the SQUIRREL! one and lost focus. 😀 It’s not so much that it was funny as it was not at all what I was expecting, which then made it funny ... I’d really like to hear you read the caption contest ones, then what you would caption ... unless the NYer lawyers think that’s a bad idea, then ... don’t do that 😬

Interesting idea! I don’t think they’d care….

I think roughly a third needed the drawing. Another third may not have made me laugh even with the drawing? There is the quiet laugh unheard in the stomach, then increasingly powerful laughs. Two made me laugh out loud even without the drawing. A bunch made me smile. Those are my metrics. Thanks always. : -)
