Carol Spinney, the man inside Big Bird, referred to his puppet personae as “characters.” He also reveled in the fact that when he was out in public, no one knew who he was.
The caption you chose was perfect! I too wish I could just wear what I want when I leave home, but as surely as I do, and happen to go to Walmart, someone will spot me and put it on social media. Mediocrity in clothing has worked for me for 80 years, and the laws of average lifespan mean I don't have time left to develop a different character. Sigh.
I try not to be noticed. Living in the mountains helps because my costume is usually hiking boots and the clothes that go with them. However I love to wear hats (mostly because my hair is really thin). When I do where a hat I get noticed. I wonder what is in us the try’s to hide
I finally signed up with a subscription. I really like what you do. The Trump felonies trial reporting was phenomenal. But this piece (on characters) touched me.
No, I don't like to be the center of attention either. So much so that recently, to prepare for a month's stay in France, I read about how older women dress there and followed suit (it was easy, black and white with a little beige, as in a trench coat). I would much rather notice than be noticed. But there are characters within, and they can emerge in the presence of loved ones. Your caption is lovely.
Remember the poem about Wearing Purple when the poet gets old. I discovered she doesn’t even like the colour. Time for us to wear what we want whatever our age.
I prefer the first caption to this charming cartoon. Many of us don't want to be noticed for what we're wearing because we think it's superficial. Our decency and goodness are what should define us not how much money we spend at Bloomingdale's.
I love the interpretation of the guy knowing it was in her and was just helping in his way to bring it out. A smile on his face would have brought me to that interpretation without help.
I also want to dress as a character but don’t allow it. I am a character. I have affection for my strangeness and my weird humor, but an older friend whose humor is like mine said, “Not weird. Whimsical”. My wife is a character with me and I am delighted by her. This is all leading up to all I can find for a caption is, “You bring me joy when you are a character”, but that has no funny in it. But maybe you’d have a way to blend the expression of delight and joy with funny.

I’m not noticeable when I go outside (ok I sometimes do wear my sandals in the winter - but not in snow!). (I’m not that noticeable inside either)
(Except maybe my hair gets noticed.)
I like that. Because I used to get a lot more notice than I wanted to when I was younger.
I love the caption as is!
Thanks!
I thought of “ Ready to go honey… what do you think?”
Love your commentary and your drawings!

Didn’t finish what I was saying. I wonder what is in us that try’s to hide, but wants to occasionally becomes a different character.

Thank you, Peter! Welcome aboard, so happy to have you here!

I love the caption— I so relate to this feeling, being a boring grandma with a young and colorful “character” inside
"Yes! You're a character! I knew you could do it!"

Thank you, those are my colors....just add greys!
Caption: "What have you done to my wife?"
haha!
Sending you a hug and an invitation to be authentic and dress however you wish!
Aw, thank you! I can feel your support and will work on it.

I prefer “eccentric.”

My two cents. And welcome home!
Totally!

You're so right, "character" does not have to be clothing, at all!
