Tomorrow’s historic debate is on my mind, as I know it is on your minds. I will be live-drawing it, which I have done for many years now.
Here are a few highlights of past debates, where I capture quotes that I think are important. Some of these quotes I think were pivotal in having an impact on these elections. “Will you shut up?” “Proud boys, stand back and stand by,” “You’re Putin’s puppet!” “I’m speaking".”
All these were done in real time as they happened, and I post them immediately on Twitter, then Instagram. These are just a sample of the probably over a hundred drawings I have done at these debates! I published all of them on Medium, you can see here.
As I looked through a bunch of my files at these drawings and quotes, it was clear that so much of what was said is exactly as it was four and eight years ago. What we will see tomorrow will include the same topics, sort of. We will be watching for the tone, mood and tenor of the candidates.
These are from 2016 when Clinton and Trump debated.
Here is a gallery of some from a Biden and Trump debate in 2020.
And then, two of the best moments of the Vice Presidential debate with Kamala Harris and Mike Pence.
Kamala said this amazing line when Pence kept interupting her.
If you recall, a fly was on Mike’s head and the internet went crazy about it.
In a few moments in some Democratic and Republican Debates, I took some creative liberties. I don’t do that often, I try to stay true to what’s being said as I draw the debaters.
A Democratic debate:
If you recall, Bernie Sanders gesticulated a lot (Brooklyn native, he’s allowed). I just found it very amusing.
I even did an animation about Bernie and Hillary.
Follow me on Twitter and Instagram to see my live-drawings! Or you can wait and I will post them on Friday for you all.
Thanks for being here, have a great rest of your day.
Make certain your vaccinations are current. Carry some form sedative for your post debate. Thanks for your dedication to reporting this story.
